It is waiting to be learnt by us all that to win this war, we must rediscover hope - before we learn annihilation.
Trouble comes on many levels. The Kaep Twins, two planets orbiting a single star, have nearly fallen to the warfleets of their enemies. Only a handful of ships survive, but can they possibly fight off so rampant a force? Or will a millenia-old religious quest end unfulfilled?
But on another level, a mother hunts for her child in a forest inhabited by man-eating creatures. Can he have survived, or is her hope for the future really lost? And the Doctor, for whom the Kaep Twins offer the only hope of renewel; can he overcome his shortcomings and once more become Time's Champion? On a level greater than all these, again the universe is in mortal danger.
Can the Doctor undo the harm he has caused, and overcome The Horror of Angels?
This is the first round-robin story featuring the 7th Doctor and Ace. The adventure takes place somewhere between Survival and Dimensions in Time.
